Channel Indents
The Ident is the strongest visual representation of a channel.
Channel Idents are little brand animations/logos clip shown on a channel in-between programs or breaks to show a little taster of the channel and what its style is and what the brand is based around for example E4 shows twin beds and toys and lots of random things happenin which are a bit young and child like which is the style of the channel. Another thing all the idents have in common are they all show the channels logo for example at the end it will show the SKY1 logo or the Channel 4 logo will form at the end and another thing is all of them have music but most of the time they wont have narration because it can clash with the audio from the continuity announcer for example the Sky1 ident has no voice over most of the time but there are times in which they want to say whats on next and you will hear narration. The people that are in charge of the idents are the marketing department, they choose what is shown and what can represent the channel and what they think will get in more viewers for example they will use a ident that uses characters from a program to keep the viewer wanting to find out what happens because they like that show a good example is channel 4 they use a indent of homer from the simpsons which is a big show for them and he's is trying to drink beer but then it ends up on the power cable and when he tries to drink it he gets shocked and then the camera zooms out to show the city and in the grids you can see the 4 logo flashing, this is effective because its funny, entertaining and keeps the viewer on the channel until the next program or it will inform them of another program they might like on another channel that belongs to the brand to keep the viewer on there set of channels/media so they are in more of our homes.
