Letter to the BBC (Lucy)

To whom this may concern,
I'm writing to you in reference to the recent episode of News Night featuring David Starkey.

In this episode he is stereotypical, rude and extremely raciest. I was very offended by what he said and I'm sure many others were too!
This was said on national television where a large number of people in the UK were viewing it, He says the black people are to blame for the commencing of the riots that occurred.

During the interview his arguments and comments were very racist which I felt was disgracefully for a man of his intellect,To blame Black Culture so freely and proudly and then have the cheek to say that "The whites have become black" when Dreda Say Mitchell brought up the argument of the White Public were also involved in the riotsThis suggest that black culture has negative influence on the white community.

The head of the Labour party and many other politicians have said that it is "racist" and has broken the race relations act 2000: all forms of racism, direct or indirect, physical or verbal abuse towards other races is against the law.

I feel that the reputation of News Night has been brought down for letting this happen and not doing anything about it and that David Starkey should be severely dealt with.
I hope that you understand the reasons for my complaint and you deal with it.

I would also like to mention that the BBC guide lines have been broken by showing this:
"1.1
Audiences are at the heart of everything we do.
We are committed to giving them high-quality, original and at times challenging output.  Creativity is the lifeblood of our organisation.
Equally, we must give our audiences content made to the highest editorial and ethical standards.  Their trust depends on it.
We must therefore balance our presumption of freedom of expression with our responsibilities, for example to respect privacy, to be fair, to avoid unjustifiable offence and to provide appropriate protection for our audiences from harm."
Thank you, Mahan.
